Hell Bay is on the west coast of Bryher, one of the 5 inhabited islands in the Isles of Scilly. The islands welcome thousands of visitors each year who come to enjoy their seclusion and beauty. There are no cars on many of the islands (including Bryher) and there’s a feelng of stepping back in time. At the edge of the Atlantic ocean, Bryher is exposed to extreme weather and winter storms kick up wild seas with immense power.

This painting was inspired by a wintery walk at Hell Bay on west of the island of Bryher in the Scilly Isles, an archepilago of 100+ islands 27 miles from Lands End at the UK's most southwesterly tip.  Invigorated by the raw beauty of our coastal walk, we braved the elements - high winds and lashing rain - we admired the rough seas and were grateful to be on dry-ish land.
