Leftfield is a large abstract painting from the Union series of paintings I made while living in Los Angeles. It can be read as an urban aerial landscape, and includes reference to the urban rivers or canals that carry water across the city. In imagining the green field sites over which untethered rivers once flowed freely I painted this canvas in lush saturated tones of cool green and blue.
